Board/Committee Participation

North Carolina Bar Association:

Vice-President of the North Carolina Bar Association for June 2000-2001 term; served as Liaison between the board of Governors and both the Hispanic/Latino Lawyers Committee and Juvenile Justice and Children's Rights Section. Appointed to the Board for Bar Cares and the Committee for Strategic Planning/Emerging Trends (2001).

Hispanic/Latino Lawyers Committee: (Charter member 1998-present). In 1998, this committee was formed to meet the needs of lawyers of Hispanic/Latino descent as well as lawyers & judges who serve North Carolina's Hispanic/Latino population. Organized and moderated the first symposium in the State of North Carolina held in the Triangle area, which was followed by symposiums held in Charlotte and Greensboro to share with community leaders, concerns and legal needs of the Hispanic/Latino Community (2000-2001)

Lawyers in the Schools Committee

  • Teen Court Program: Wake County Courthouse, Wake County High Schools (1999- present) Presided over the first mock teen court forum and worked with the school resource officer and social studies instructors to provide volunteers for the teen court program for the Green Hope High School Parents Association.
  • Participated in Law and Government Career Fairs (2000 & 2001)

Young Lawyers Division: Participated in Law Week activities and taught Law 101 (Traffic/Crirninal Law) Adult Continuing Education Course at Cary High School in cooperation with Wake County Public schools (1996-2001).

Wake County Bar Association: Elected to board for two year term, beginning January 2002: Organized and moderated the first "This is the Law" seminar with the help of the public service committee of the Wake County Bar Association and the Hispanic/Latino Community Leaders.
