Among other awards, Judge Calabria was Honored by the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council as the 2002 “Woman of Today.”

Judge Ann Marie Calabria was honored April 4, 2002 by the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council as the 2002 Woman of Today. Judge Calabria worked with middle and high school students as a leader and a co-leader for North Atlantic Girl Scouts while her husband was serving as a career Army Officer in Heidelberg, Germany.

She developed leadership skills in young women and prepared them for various careers by supervising them in a variety of community service projects for their Silver awards. She encouraged them to capitalize on their diversity and introduced them to opportunities for international friendship and culture.

Judge Calabria has proven to be an emerging force in the promotion of women’s issues. She has participated in Women Judges’ Forums and various domestic violence workshops throughout North Carolina.

Understanding the importance of community service, Judge Calabria, volunteers for Wake County Public Schools, is a member of the Cary and Garner Chambers of Commerce, and was a former youth leader for senior high school students at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Through her work in the criminal justice system, she is serving others and making a positive impact on the community.

Dr. Jerry M. Wallace, the President of Campbell University, presented Judge Calabria with the "Distinguished Alumna Award" on October 4, 2003 at the Campbell University Homecoming.

The selection criteria for the Woman of Today is:
  • The woman has made significant contributions to her community to benefit or promote women and girls.
  • That she have evidence of sustained and continued commitment to her chosen path, whether career, civic, or through involvement in another volunteer organization.
  • She exemplifies the Girl Scout Promise and Law and the mission of Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council.
  • That She have an affiliation with Girl Scouting.
  • She resides within Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council’s 20-county jurisdiction.
