Campbell law school opens in Raleigh

Judge Ann Marie Calabria would like to congratulate Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law for opening its doors in Raleigh to nearly 400 students who, along with faculty and staff, begin their first semester in the new home on Hillsborough Street.

Spread across four floors, the new location increases the size of Campbell Law School’s overall facility space from 74,000 square feet to more than 109,000 square feet, an increase of more than 41 percent.

Judge Calabria, Judge John Tyson and Judge Donna Stroud (pictured above) held a special session at the Buies Creek campus prior to the move. The event marked the first time a panel of judges from the N.C. Court of Appeals, who are all graduates of Campbell Law School, have held court on the Campbell University campus.

Judge Ann Marie Calabria
Will Not Seek Reelection

RALEIGH (Sept. 9, 2009) – Judge Ann Marie Calabria announced today that she would not seek reelection next year.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of North Carolina as a Judge on the District Court and the Court of Appeals.  I have spent the last 14 years working to ensure justice is served while bringing much needed reform to our courts” Judge Calabria said.  “It is now time for me to spend more time with my family and work to build new opportunities for the future.”

“I am making this announcement now, so that potential candidates will have the time to organize their campaigns for next year’s judicial elections. The integrity of our judicial system depends upon our judges and I believe that opening the door for others to serve only benefits the quality of our judiciary” added Judge Calabria.

Judge Ann Marie Calabria was first elected in 1996 as a District Court Judge for the 10th Judicial District (Wake County).  In 2002, Judge Calabria was elected to the North Carolina Court of Appeals.  She ran for the North Carolina Supreme Court in 2006 narrowly losing that election.
